It would be great to be able to set the experiment variable if so desired. E.g. this would enable something like running a Google Adwords Campaign for each separate value in the experiment, but to still have the variable random if the traffic came from elsewhere.

Is there a simple way to write to the redis store before the gem gets there?

You can override the alternative using url params: https://github.com/andrew/split#overriding-alternatives

Although this doesn't track those users in the dashboard as you can really screw with the statistics that way.

Thanks for the quick response.

I guess what I would like is the ability to track those users through split rather than have them outside the data set. This would be highly useful for any external campaigns where we want to send users to a particular experiment value. Would it be possible to do a simple "opt-in" to tracking those users (either via the params or by setting redis directly)?

I'm closing out some of these old issues, if this is still a problem for you please comment and I'll reopen it.
