Nose has been unmaintained for several years, and the former nose maintainer is apparently now encouraging people to migrate away from it. Debian is proposing a mass bug-filing in this regard: the email at https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2022/08/msg00065.html also has information on switching away from nose.
