In paper-trail-gem/paper_trail#1033 we are getting ready to change the API for all "request variables", ie. variables like whodunnit that affect only the current request, not all threads.

I am not familiar with the code in this gem, but I'm guessing you'll have to change PaperTrail.whodunnit= to PaperTrail.request.whodunnit=. There are also changes to whodunnit(value) and whodunnit(value, &block).
