To remove the merge and revert merge commits @dtopdontstop , you can do the following:

git reset --hard a971636a49c4eb38066bca562d677dcb03dcdd7a
git push -f dtopdontstop CASSSANDRA-17483

And then, if you want to rebase this work on top of the latest changes in trunk, do

git switch trunk
git pull
git switch CASSSANDRA-17483
git rebase trunk
# fix any conflicts that might arise
git push -f dtopdontstop CASSSANDRA-17483
