Zombie chat notification just won't die, and shows incorrect number of new messages

I got a message from @luhmann after I created the "How do I create a new chat" topic.

It now keeps repeatedly notifying me of a new message from him, despite the fact that I've already seen the message. Each time it notifies me, the number increases by one. I'm currently on 4!

As you can see, I've only got 1 message from him since I last sent a reply, so how could it think there are 4?
