Refactored data binding to resolve [ALOY-1478], [ALOY-1480], [ALOY-1481] and [ALOY-1482]

This is a complete refactoring of model and collection data binding.

DO NOT MERGE UNTIL WE'VE TESTED THIS INSIDE OUT... TWICE
