In "What's New in CUPS 1.6" (http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-1.6/whatsnew.html) we read:

The "brightness", "columns", "fitplot", "gamma", "hue",
"natural-scaling", "penwidth", "position", "ppi", "saturation",
and "scaling" options are not longer supported by CUPS directly

However, in "Commandline Printing Options" (http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-1.6/options.html) the option for "columns" is still present.

And I also wonder, how all the other "Text Options" are still (directly) supported if the texttops filter is now outsourced to the Linux Foundation?

WRT the columns documentation, will fix.

WRT the other text options, currently those are supported by both the Mac and Linux Foundation filters, so we'll leave those in...
