File import compatibility #9
Comments
If possible please attach a .zip of a mesh/texture which never imports so I can fix that. For meshes unwrapped .obj is the safest choice, should have no issues with 50MB files/1M+ tris. I don't think you are doing anything wrong - it's meant to work by just dropping the file. I noticed that on Ubuntu there are weird issues with drag and drop, what OS are you on? On another Linux distro the drag and drop is apparently not working at all. Windows should be ok. It's a nightmare to chew through these issues initially. I am trying to paste scary notices all around but if you feel wronged and bought on itch then definitely drop me an email for a refund.:) I would still welcome to hear about as many issues as possible, to eventually make armorpaint as good as it gets and enjoyable to use. Reading about the issues pains me, hardest part of the development process. |
Thanks for the response, no problem, yeah sorry about that I should've included that, was just a bit frustrated trying to figure it out. I'm on the latest version of Windows 10, 16gb ram, 3gb vram with Nvidia GeForce Gtx 970m and a 2 Terabyte dual hard drive. I'm pretty experienced with technical stuff so if you need me to try to do something for you on my end just let me know unless its programming, im horrible at that part. Okay, I was using .fbx thanks for letting me know about the .obj I will give that a try. I am pretty new to using it so it may be some issues from my own misunderstandings at the same time lol. Normally yes, i'd want my money back but I think this is a cool tool so nah I don't want my money back as long as I know you're actively working on this stuff since it'll help support you with it so that you can stay focused on developing these programs further, it's just a little rough around the edges atm, I wanted to use it to enhance some textures in my Evil Never Dies game and a few other projects. :) Here's three files I was trying it with so far that I ran into the issues on:
I am still figuring it out so i'll proceed with trying it on OBJ's instead and see what happens and then I need to try to figure out how exactly the textures/mats get exported but I will look at the documentation again for that since I forgot |
Hmm, not sure if those files were uploaded for the first two or not? still says uploading on my end.. |
@Deygus also says uploading here - if you are able to share the files with me through email(lubos at armory3d.org) / dropbox / whatever suits you I would appreciate that. Gearing up to work on the importer fixes now.:) |
Sure, i'll send it right over right now. |
I have same issue, a very low poly model (obj and fbx) just won’t open. Tried triangulating faces, all normals are ok, unwrapped. Some other files will open but it’s flipping normals, and fbx has wrong UV’s. I’m going to see if there’s a common factor in files that don’t load. I know your working on it. I hope you can get it working better as I also saw the video, and expected it to be able to actually use it. I’ll keep trying and look forward to seeing it improve as I think it will be a great tool. |
Awesome, thanks so much for the update on this Lubos!

The original test files should import properly in 0.5. If there is still an .obj which refuses to import please let me know. Every .obj file should work in 0.5.

If anyone runs into more |
I know you're working on developing this when you can but after looking at your youtube videos and then investing in the software I would expect it to work somewhat decently and it doesn't seem so..
For instance my biggest annoyance right now is the Importing of Models and Textures, it seems to only want to accept them half the time when I try to import something whether I drag and drop it in or do it manually through the program.
If I import a squared off boxy simple gun that works after about 3 tries but if I have a model that has a bit more detail or lots of geometry or if it's sculpted even at lower poly counts then nothing happens and these are only files around 1.x megabytes, very small file sizes. I think its struggling to read the assets and needs refined more.
I looked through the help files to see if I am doing it right but after reading through it wasn't helpful..
