Welcome to QiBi

QiBi is taken from yukuyuku's excellent androidbible.

FAQ

  • There are no bibles included with the app!? To avoid copyright issues, no translations are included. Please top the top-left menu or slide in from left, select Settings, select Usage and URL for bible versions. Try "Qibi", "yuku" or another server name to fetch a list of translations. Then go to Menu, Settings and Manage Versions to download some.
  • Where can I download raw YES files for use with other applications? Try http://qibicdn.appspot.com/
  • Where can I download iPhone, iPad, iWhatever versions of QiBi? 1) Welcome to Android. 2) There are no plans for making an Apple port. You could download the bibles in EPUB format on http://qibicdn.appspot.com/ though. Or download the source files and convert them to iSilo or something. YMMV ;)
  • I want audio as well! No audio can be reproduced with QiBi, and there are no plans for implementing it. Please head over to jw.org (22+ languages with audio), bible.is or bible.com for audio versions
  • I want to build my own Bible versions server! Very good. Have a look here.
  • Where on my Android device are the bibles stored? in the app-private folder, inaccessible to other apps unless rooted (From version 20160515 on). Legacy versions store the bibles in /<internal storage>/bible/yes/ and fonts in /<internal storage>/bible/fonts/
  • My bible versions show up twice on the Versions List!? This could happen if the server .yes file has the same name as one of your local bibles. Solution: rename your local file (but keep the .yes extension).
  • The language for the bible is wrong! This could happen if you install the bible from a local file, because Android does not support all historic languages. Solution: install the bible from a versions server.
  • I want to sync/save/retrieve my bookmarks. Sorry but that is not a function in QiBi and it will not be implemented. You could install QuickBible instead, it's got those functions and many more.

Known issues

  • Spanish is the default language (not respecting your device's default). This is by design, as most users live in Ecuador.
  • One very old version had an issue with Nexus 7 with Android 5.0.2+, installing QiBi with Operating System language set to other than English, it could actually CRASH THE OPERATING SYSTEM! This was an Android bug, and it has been reported. Specifically, it caused the device to reboot, and as soon it has started, it booted again. Until factory reset. Very sorry for those of you who have experienced this; we've published an update to work around the problem.
  • On Android 4.1.2, the Split switch will get stuck in ON position if enabling Split but then Cancelling the dialog. This is cosmetic only and will reset after enabling split and then disabling it.
  • The Navigation view resets to Book selection when switching between Landscape and Portrait.
  • Some languages have incomplete UI/help. English, Spanish and Norwegian are closest to complete.
  • On Android 4.1.2 (maybe other levels as well), the Shuar "n" with underline bridging to the next letter is not supported in Roboto font.

Wishlist

  • Search should try alternative spellings, maybe as last priority. Now, things like "Bẹ’er-Sjẹba" and "Nuja̱i̱ " are hard to find, since android doesn't have methods for inputting "ẹ" or "a̱i̱"... éèẹë etc should be searchable with normal "e".
  • Choose between left or right hand navigation
  • Different color for footnote and crossref markers
  • Button for switching upper and lower bibles
  • Option for setting background color of selected verses
  • Make Footnotes window the same style as crossreferences
  • Please write to arnotixe+qibi@gmail.com if you have other wishes for future releases.
