Serves: 6
- 12 leaves of cabbage
- Filling
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1lb lean ground beef (or turkey)
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- Sauce
- 2 cans (8oz ea) tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil cabbage leaves for 2 minutes and drain.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, egg, milk, meat, salt, and pepper.
- Lay out a leaf of cabbage and place about 1/4 cup of meat mixture in the center of it.
- Roll up leaf, tucking in ends to enclose the mixture. You may remove the courser spine of the leaf if it's difficult to roll.
- Place cabbage roll in a baking dish or dutch oven, flap side down. Repeat previous and this step for each roll.
- Combine sauce ingredients and pour over cabbage rolls.
- Bake for 1 hour.
