Cabbage Rolls

Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 12 leaves of cabbage
  • Filling
    • 1 cup cooked white rice
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • 1lb lean ground beef (or turkey)
    • 1 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • Sauce
    • 2 cans (8oz ea) tomato sauce
    • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil cabbage leaves for 2 minutes and drain.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, egg, milk, meat, salt, and pepper.
  4. Lay out a leaf of cabbage and place about 1/4 cup of meat mixture in the center of it.
  5. Roll up leaf, tucking in ends to enclose the mixture. You may remove the courser spine of the leaf if it's difficult to roll.
  6. Place cabbage roll in a baking dish or dutch oven, flap side down. Repeat previous and this step for each roll.
  7. Combine sauce ingredients and pour over cabbage rolls.
  8. Bake for 1 hour.
