I am the guy, who did rewrite the drawille from Python to Lua. So yes, the
program will work fine, but you have to use a font on that terminal, that
has the Braille Unicodes implemented. Try a different font. The program
will run fine and this will happen also with the original Python version of
this program, which is inferior to the lua-version, which I greatly
enhanced and which is in most cases considerably faster. Not a problem of
course of the programmer, but of that specific language.

The font I'm using here is Liberation Mono, but I think Linux is choosing
other fonts, if there is a character used that the original does not
support. Also it is useful to make your terminal support 256 colors, which
is possible on Windows, but I do not remember how. And which is that
main.lua program, that you are calling? That's not mine.
Please use the version from my github and check, if the error is there, by
testing some of the example files. Some of the examples will need the
lua-ncurses library installed by the way.
best regards Hanno
Hope, I could help.
