Skip string normalization in formatter

We are trying to test the Ruff formatter as a replacement for Black. Does Ruff have an alternative to the "--skip-string-normalization" option from Black?

No, ruff doesn't support --skip-string-normalization although it shouldn't be too hard to implement. What's your reason for using it? Is it because you prefer single quotes over double quotes or do you use a mix of both?

Adding another use case for this very much helpful option - incremental formatting

For years I have a project that had no style guide so there's a mix of single and double quotes everywhere. To start converging code to a single code style, a formatter was added to Pull Requests (+ precommit for local) that will format changed files in the PR. Without --skip-string-normalization most of the diffs produced are quote changes, polluting the diff. With the option, new code will be written with double quotes and eventually everything will be formatted the same way. I guess I could just run the formatter on all code but that has other cons... Mb i will seem like a code monkey, but i dont rly find single/double quote issue important for some of my projects. I mean, some coders used do type single quotes, some - double. I wanna to left freedom of choice, bc, as i texted before - that isnt such a big deal for me.

Hi, I am the author of Leo a large open-source project. --skip-string-normalization is essential for Leo:

• To retain Leo's code style: Leo uses single and double quotes for distinct purposes.
• To eliminate large diffs in hundreds of files. This will allow incremental formatting, as mentioned in another response.
