I think that create a new function to convert this spatial objects to an grid (like the grid from the WRF model) and extract just the values (the georeference is on the NETCDF as the units on the attributes of the variable) is a better approach. And call internally wrf_put or return a value and then use wrf_put
Well, I believe vein::GriddedEmissionsArray already does that
