I'm working on a Arch Linux x64 with atom v.0.139.0.
I realized that editing a file in Plain Text mode, the editor was awfully slow. When I'm typing everything takes time to appear on the screen and every ~10 seconds it lags even more for 1 second. Also, the wheel zoom is really slow. But, when I switch my file to C or C++ everything come back really fluid.
Someone has an idea why Plain Text is so slow?

Perhaps it is the spell checker which runs in plain text mode perhaps? Maybe try disabling the spell-check package as a first step.

Also, just to confirm, can you reproduce this if you quit Atom and relaunch it with atom --safe?

I disabled the spell-check and the lag disappeared. Is it a bug in the spell-check package?
Also, I don't know if it's the normal behavior, but after restarting my atom with the spell-check disabled, it disappeared from my package list, so I can't enable it again.

it disappeared from my package list, so I can't enable it again.

This will be fixed in the next Atom release, see atom/settings-view#271

Quite possibly, mind opening an issue there? https://github.com/atom/spell-check/issues/new
