I think VBE may not be implemented again (it used to be). We currently use VMWare SVGAII for graphics and it's not supported by QEMU, only VBE is. That's why you're stuck in textmode before graphic init.

PS: I focused on VMWare graphics because it's way faster than VBE

QEMU is not supported, only VMWare. I will work on larger support later
