Icon theme ignored

Output of awesome --version:

awesome v4.3 (Too long)
• Compiled against Lua 5.3.6 (running with Lua 5.3)
• D-Bus support: ✔
• execinfo support: ✔
• xcb-randr version: 1.6
• LGI version: 0.9.2

How to reproduce the issue:

1. Use archlinux
2. Install candy-icons package
3. Get https://github.com/lcpz/awesome-copycats and dependencies (freedesktop, lain, etc)
4. Select random theme
5. Change in rc.lue beautiful.icon_theme = 'candy-icons'
6. Add line in in subdir theme.lua of your chosen theme in file theme.icon_theme = "candy-icons"

Actual result:
hicolor menubar icons (I've used naughty to print actual paths all are taken from /usr/share/icons/hicolor/*)

Expected result:
I've expected "candy icons" in lil menu, old icons are shown this is totally ignored (5,6)
