Why do I not see any icons (glyphs) or why do I see question mark boxes [?] ?

• Did you read the setup?
• Make sure you are using a font that has the powerline symbols
• Make sure your terminal encoding is set to UTF-8
  • echo $LANG should give something like: en_US.UTF-8
• Are you using iTerm2 ?
  • make sure to change both the Regular Font and Non-ASCII Font to a powerline supported font

ValueError: insecure string pickle

This is a Python bug. See discussion in https://github.com/banga/powerline-shell/issues/246#issuecomment-256208515

How do I get this to work with pyenv?

You need to install powerline-shell with your system-wide pip. If you installed while in a pyenv environment, you can uninstall powerline-shell and then install again with a command like:

sudo /usr/bin/pip install powerline-shell
