Project Installer: "There was an error getting information for [project]" #5441

When trying to install a module that has an incompatible (not ported to Backdrop for example) submodule via the Project Browser, this error is thrown:

The screenshot above is after trying to install v1.x-2.5.1 of the LDAP Authentication module in latest 1.20.3 version of Backdrop.

It is not just the error, but the fact that the list of modules to enable is not shown at all.
