Unnecessary sensor for current humidity

The custom component itself as you mention creates a sensor for current humidity itself. So there is actually no need to create another template sensor to filter the current humidity from the dehumidifier entity.

By doing that you just end up with a duplicate sensor for no reason. Unless there's something I have completely missed, you can just use the auto generated sensor in everything.

So I just think it should be removed from the instructions otherwise people end up with two identical sensors and probably not even realise
