Client is the official repository of client information. The ministry uses it to manage its business relationships with corporations and individuals. It enables staff to identify clients who do business with the ministry. A client is a legal entity or individual that qualifies to enter a business relationship with the ministry, applies to establish an account with the ministry or has been assessed a penalty under the Forest Act

Forest ministry staff use it to:

  • Register new clients and create new Client numbers
  • Create a new Forest Client number when companies amalgamate
  • Understand business relationships between clients
  • Update clients contact and billing information
  • Change status of clients (e.g.: deceased, deactivate etc.)
  • Check that clients are in good standing so they can be awarded contracts and sales
  • Validate people’s registrations and search for associated clients
  • Search for private timber marks, range and cutting permits, general billing information
  • Merge mail when licensees must be emailed
  • Note important information about a client
  • See the business history of a client

Client numbers are used to:

  • Make sure clients are eligible to be awarded contracts and sales
  • Check that there are no shareholders in a company that are already registrants
  • Assign a registration number so the Ministry of Finance can invoice clients
  • Link to the FTA and GBMS
  • Ensure there are no shareholders in a company that are already registrants.
  • Get address information to contact clients
  • Ensure contractors get paid
  • Validate the number on Timber Farm Licences (TFLs)
  • Make sure an entity or person who wants to be a BCTS registrant isn’t already one (Can only have one BCTS registration.)

Modernization Vision

Client will,

  • be the first choice (and most of the time the only choice) by the Ministry of Forest to search for Client contact information.
  • be a modernized web-based application to provide timely and accurate data.
  • provide self-service capabilities.
  • be integrated with existing BC Gov Identity Management services to ensure accuracy of client data.
  • be integrated with supporting applications to streamline the data-flow and human efforts
