Is it possible to create a new set of variants for number-sign please that ascend and descend relative to uppercase letters making it more distinguishable at small font sizes?
There are already characters (pipe, dollar, parens) that are taller than uppercase letters, and recently a similar issue was reported for at character ( #1216 ).
The new variant should probably have the same "height limits" as pipe/dollar/parens.

IMHO the "shorter" variants of at and number-sign look better from visual point of view and they are really beautiful and well designed. But the "taller" ones make reading code and "machine" texts (like browser urls or email addresses) easier for me.
