Why Blanket?

Like many of you, I’ve written several applications (Ruby, non-Ruby). I’ve set up a few webapps that I didn’t write, some with custom templates. I might be around the app for a few weeks or months to keep somewhat current backups, manually, but I do not leave something systematic in place. Who has time to think about backups when there are new features to implement!

Blanket is all about removing that excuse. I want blanket to install as easily as possible, and have you automating backups for your projects in less than 15 minutes.

The Goal

I’d like an experience with Blanket to be like this:

  1. Download the gem
  2. Run a config command to set up a location they’d like to back up
  3. Edit the configuration files to include the right details
  4. Run the command to make sure it works
  5. Set up a cron job
  6. Forget about it forever

If that sounds good to you, view the QuickStart page for more information about getting blanket installed and setting up your first backup with it.

Using Blanket

Blanket is MIT licensed, so do what you like with it as long as the license is kept intact. If you are so inclined, I would love payment via ‘bigfleet’ @ Foamee

From the Author

I have only a limited amount of experience with rSpec, and had never used Git or written a gem before starting this project. My goal was to try something new, and hopefully I’d end up with something useful in the process. I’m a lot happier with this code than I had expected that I would be, so I’d love it if you all gave it a chance.
