This adds an optional hash to the route specification allowing you to specify a default for each field.

you to specify a default for each field.
(I closed the previous request, which was for this branch, but back then this branch accidentally included a commit from another feature branch. I rebased this one to include only the default value commit, so you can do a clean pull.)
