duplicate entries (essentially the same tool registered twice) can creep in, need a way to identify these automatically e.g. based on name, homepage URL, publication ID?

I actually have a longer standing questions about this... what if one service (one specific Swagger, but on several servers; or multiple SPARQL end points hosting the same data) has multiple instances? How is that handled in bio.tools?

That sounds like a mirror. In such cases there would be a single bio.tools entry, but with (URLs of) mirrors annotated as a link of type "mirror"

Would that work?
