In the course of trying to make a repro that was accessible to human reason, the act of resizing the arbitrary for
UpdatableIndexSetting'itself made the error go away.This thing has been a pain in my spleen for some time so if you don't have any objections I'm going to call it a fix for this issue if the tests come out green.
This includes SemVerification too.
