Description

When moving the mouse cursor over the main menu items, the grey highlighting background is not drawn in one piece but in two pieces after another. This is called tearing in the context of video frame rate synchronisation. Since the tearing always happens between the labels and the accelerator texts, I believe that the cause is different here. Probably the menu highlighting background is technically implemented by two separate UI elements, one for the left and one for the right half, and they're not drawn together but in different events. This causes a well visible and irritating flicker when using that menu. I haven't seen this kind of graphical glitch in a long time.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the main menu
  2. Move the mouse cursor over all menu items multiple times and watch how the grey background of each is drawn

Actual result:

Not representable in a screenshot, video capturing might be too slow

Expected result:

Draw the grey background in one piece, not two

Reproduces how often:

Easily reproduced, happens in every case

Brave version (brave://version info)

1.28.105 Chromium: 92.0.4515.131 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit)

@ygoe do you have more information about your OS and your setup?

Usually, graphic glitches like this can be resolved by visiting brave://settings/system and disabling Use hardware acceleration when available. Can you give that a shot?

Did that, restarted, no change at all. Changed back, restarted, still there.

On another computer, it only occurred once for each menu item. When moving the mouse cursor up and down, the effect was gone there. But it still happens on my main computer.

@ygoe We're on version 1.62.162. Are you still running into this issue?
