Reason: the file downloads with a custom name, in my case client_secret_796539993876-dcqti4695v**********aeuogc.apps.googleusercontent.com.json, thus need to be renamed to the correct filename.
Apart from that, it turned out to be 100% identical with credentials.json downloaded from Google as per their current instructions, so in your ReadMe.md it might just say "duplicate credentials.json and rename the copy to client_secret.json". I think both files are needed even though their content is the same.

Remember to download client_secrets.json
otherwise one runs into the issue Error opening file 'client_secrets.json': No such file or directory
