Adding new candidates

Header from spreadsheet Format Description Data source
election_name City/county name and election date The locale (city or county) and the date of the election; if your ballot does not already exist in the spreadsheet, you can add it. It's where you live.
Candidate Name of candidate as listed on the Candidate Intention Statement - FPPC Form 501 or as it will appear on the ballot. Candidates do not always use their legal name on the ballot. For aliases see below. Local campaign records are filed with the City Clerk or Registrar, or city's filing officer for campaign statements, and are often available online via NetFile.
FPPC# A unique identifying number for the candidate's committee (not the candidates themselves); issued by Secretary of State when the candidate submits FPPC Form 410 - Statement of Organization Recipient Committee The ID number can be found on the committee's Form 410 in Section 1 - Committee Information or the committee's Form 460 in Section 3 - Committee Information. Local campaign records are filed with the City Clerk or Registrar, or city's filing officer for campaign statements, and are often available online via NetFile.
Committee Name The name candidate's campaign committee for this election as it appears on FPPC Form 410 - Statement of Organization. (State law requires the candidate's last name, office they're running for, and the election year be included in the name.) Local campaign records are filed with the City Clerk or Registrar, or city's filing officer for campaign statements, and are often available online via NetFile.
Aliases Other names by which the candidate is known Campaign literature
Office Name of the office the candidate is running for (i.e. City Council District 4) Form 501 or Section 4 of Form 410
Incumbent Does the candidate currently hold the office for which they are running? Answer TRUE or FALSE
Accepted expenditure ceiling If the local jurisdiction has campaign spending limits, has this candidate accepted the optional expenditure ceiling for this election? Answer should be TRUE or FALSE In Oakland, to accept the voluntary spending limit, candidates submit OCRA Form 301 See city's filing officer for campaign statements. Maybe available online via NetFile.
Public Funding Received Some local jurisdictions provide some form of public campaign financing. Is your jurisdiction has a public financing program, enter the amount received by the candidate here. In Oakland, public financing program disbursements are listed on the Public Ethics Commission website.
Website Website candidate has launched to promote their campaign; leave blank if unknown
Twitter Candidate's twitter handle (i.e. @OaklandEthics). Maybe personal or for the campaign. Do not enter the "@" sign; leave blank if unknown
Party Affiliation Party affiliation for the candidate; leave blank if unknown
Occupation Provided by the candidate on nomination papers; leave blank if unknown See local ballot information booklet or contact Registrar of Voters

Photo Headshot of candidate; photos should have a square aspect ratio, be a no larger than 300x300px, and under 50k in size; compress image using tinypng.com; upload image to Github here (location TBA)
VotersEdge URL to candidate's page on Voters' Edge; leave blank if unknown
Start Date If the candidate's committee has been used for past elections, enter the date the committee filed a Form 410 amendment for the current election. (Note a candidate committees can redesignate itself for a future election and retain it's original FPPC#.) Start and end dates help differentiate funds dedicated to different elections for committees used for more than one election. See committee's Form 410 amendments.
End Date If the candidate's committee is redesignated as an officeholder account, enter the date the committee filed a Form 410 amendment to convert to an officeholder account. (Note: Local jurisdictions have differing rules about officeholder accounts and restrictions on officeholder account funds.) Start and end dates help differentiate funds dedicated to an election from officeholder accounts funds. See committee's Form 410 amendments.
