Does Pomodorino work for Gnome 40 and Wayland?

When I start Pomodorino through either the gnome launcher or the terminal all I see is a notification that says "Pomodorino is ready". But I don't see anything else happen.

Pomodorino is pure GTK so it should work fine on Wayland (tho I did not test it on it yet), the notification you see being the proof. I think why you don't see anything is, the main UI of the app is a system tray icon that has an associated menu, and Gnome 3 / 40 does not support displaying AppIndicators by default.

I haven't tried this (as I'm on i3wm), but installing gnome-shell-extension-appindicator may help. If you can try that and then tell me if it worked or not, that'd be great. I'll add it as a dependency if it works for you; if it doesn't, I'll test with Gnome 40 myself in the weekend and see if I can do anything.

Long term I'll probably add a main window as an alternative to the AppIndicator UI. I've added issue #58 for this.

Hmm. That may require a (potentially hidden) setting maybe. I'll give it a go on the weekend then.

MPRIS would indeed be too hacky, and might clash with audio controls. Plus, it would probably not work in custom desktop setups.

In the mean time, there is a more Gnome-oriented Pomodoro timer here, which is also more mature and feature complete than Pomodorino. A couple of the features from this app will end up in Pomodorino eventually (e.g. keyboard shortcuts, #55), but unfortunately at a slow pace.

I actually did try gnome-pomodoro first. But it seems to be a bit buggy. There are lots of issues opened about it freezing. When I tried it myself, it also froze.

Hi! I just got to test this and managed to have the indicator show up. After installing the gnome extension package, you'll have to do one of the following:

• run gnome-extensions enable appindicatorsupport@rgcjonas.gmail.com
• run gnome-extensions-app, and enable KStatusNotifierItem/AppIndicator Support

You may need to log out and log back in after doing this.

Both of these programs seem to be in the gnome-shell package. FWIW, I tested on a Gnome 40.2.0 install of EndeavourOS (which is a fork of Manjaro and based on Arch).

I'll add gnome-shell-extension-appindicator as an optional dependency and update PKGBUILD and Readme.markdown with relevant documentation soon.

Please update me on whether this worked for you or not when you get the chance to test.
