MS Gothic is most affected by this issue, while Meiryo and MS Mincho is still
ok.

I've just downloaded and tried VL Gothic and IPA Gothic. They are also too bold.

I suppose I can't change the embolden setting for only bold fonts in
setting.xml,
right?

You can, with certain font name regular expression like ".*Bold.*".

The above method is only applicable to those having a separate bold file. e.g.
微軟雅黑

I think the problem is that gdipp makes the bold font too "thick" when the font
does
not have a separate bold file.

*Bold.*" solves the problem of bold style, in my case.

Aah, those Gothic fonts do not have embedded bold fonts either. Any other
workaround?
Maybe these fonts require special treatment.

I think Microsoft YaHei has a separate bold font file named "msyhbd.ttf".

For those with no separate file, there is no solution right now. I can decrease
the
embolden strength for artificial bold fonts. However, the displayed boldness
seems to
be system dependent. The current boldness works perfectly in my case.
