How to 'install' SWELF

Ceramicskate0 edited this page May 23, 2020 · 8 revisions

Steps:

  1. Copy the Example files to a Directory on your machine that you wish to run SWELF from.
  2. Edit the config files to what you want using the instructions from HERE
  3. Run SWELF and check your windows event logs for any issues SWELF maybe having or just to see what it found.
  4. Once you start seeing SWELF recording other event logs to its own setup SWELF to run as you want it to. Some Ideas can be found HERE

Configuration:

  • Copy the Example files to a Directory on your machine that you wish to run SWELF from. Otherwise SWELF can make files it needs with defaults, but its recommended you place them there prior to 1st running SWELF.
  • Once the app has the files it needs the user (you) modifies the config files ConsoleAppConfig.conf and Search.txt.
  • Search.txt is what the app will use to search log files to find what you want.
  • ConsoleAppConfig.conf will tell SWLF what to do with the logs it finds.

NOTES:

  • App has no visual output so any errors it has will be logged to its "SWELF_Logs" folder into a log file and/or its own Windows Eventlog. (The app will manage the max size of the local text log file, which varies based on drive size for the drive the app is in)
