A little internet-connected device that broadcasts real-time shelter occupancy data, allowing for faster referrals for people seeking shelters, to shelters with available space.

  • Why: Improve shelter referral turnaround times
  • Who: Helps 24-hour respite centers and shelters, and by extension, people experiencing homelessness
  • How: A device that broadcasts how much space a shelter has by turning a knob, and a map that shows, at a glance, which nearby shelters have space.

📣 We need to do outreach, get feedback, and iterate!

  • Research the problem (i.e. talk to shelter staff)
  • Develop initial hardware and software prototypes
  • Follow-up with shelter staff, gather feedback
  • Talk to the city, research opportunities for partnerships and sponsorships
  • Run a pilot program with sister shelters that often refer to each other
  • Roll-out to shelters and respite centers across the GTA
