(This version requires macOS 12.0 Monterey or newer. If you have 10.13 High Sierra through macOS 11.0 Big Sur, you want 1.7.0 High Sierra Edition instead!)

This release comes with some under-the-hood changes, but is otherwise relatively minor.

Features

  • When within a thread, you can now pull-to-refresh. #160
  • When viewing a toot's favorites and boosts, or a profile's follows and followers, you can now click to see a list of the people. You can then double-click to go to their respective profiles. #151

(This version requires macOS 12.0 Monterey or newer. If you have 10.13 High Sierra or newer, you want 1.7.0 High Sierra Edition instead!)

Features

  • You can now swipe left or right on a toot to quickly interact with it: reply, boost, favorite, bookmark. If you prefer, you can turn this off in Preferences.
  • Emoji autocomplete: both built-in Unicode emoji, and your instance's custom emoji now autocomplete in the status composer. Try typing :cat! 🐱
  • Mastonaut now has a few features documented in the macOS Help.
  • You can now open multiple compose windows at once. This is useful if, say, you were busy writing a reply to someone, and want to fire off a quick toot on something different in the meantime. (Contributed by @uliwitness)
  • Previously, statuses would always cut off after 500 characters, then show a Show Entire Contents link underneath. You can now set a custom cut off in Preferences — a shorter one like 140 characters, or even no limit at all. (#138)
  • Support for notifying of, and responding to, follow requests. (#99)
  • This release offers preliminary support for macOS 14 Sonoma.

Fixes

  • Whether you followed a tag wasn't checked reliably in 1.7.0.
  • If a focused toot had an attachment (such as an image), the interaction buttons didn't appear correctly in 1.7.0.
  • #130: clicking some links (e.g. those on the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine) didn't work.

(This version requires macOS 12.0 Monterey or newer. If you have 10.13 High Sierra or newer, you want 1.7.0 High Sierra Edition instead!)

Features

  • You can now customize the font face and size in Preferences. (#83) By default, the font of a focused status is a bit larger than others, so you can set both separately.
  • For the focused status, you can see interaction statistics (how many replies, boosts, and favorites did it receive).
  • In addition to letting you bookmark a hashtag as before, you can now follow a hashtag. Posts mentioning the tag will then appear in your regular home timeline (not just in Mastonaut, but any client), just like users you're following.

Fixes

  • In 1.6.0, you couldn't hit return when composing to insert a line break. (#103)
  • Since 1.5.0, the cmd-c wouldn't copy text any more. (#62)
  • 1.6.0 could crash when typing in the search box. (#108)
  • There's been a crash when loading the time line, due to pull-to-refresh. This is hopefully fixed now. (#63, #95)

Features

  • You can now 📝 edit a toot of yours. Also, if you or someone else has edited a toot, this is now indicated in the timeline. You can expand a toot to show its edit history. (Viewing edit history is a little wonky and limited for now.)
  • Statuses and replies now have a different default privacy. (#64) A lot of people like for replies to default to Unlisted.
  • If a toot links to another toot, clicking it now opens it right in Mastonaut rather than in your browser. (#93)
  • If your instance has a non-default (not 500) character limit for statuses, Mastonaut now detects this.
  • Hashtags can now be autocompleted. You can start typing #maston, and #mastonaut will get suggested. Previously, only user names could be autocompleted.
  • Accessibility of the timeline window has been improved slightly. (#96) There's more to come.

Fixes

  • If you started typing a user name at the very end of your toot, and used autocompletion to fill out the rest, the actual submitted toot wouldn't contain the completed name.

Features

  • You can now 🚀 Boost, ⭐️ Favorite, or 📕 Bookmark a toot from its contextual menu.
  • You can view your Favorites or Bookmarks as a timeline column. #47, #53
  • In addition to accounts and tags, you can now search for Toots. Note that, for privacy reasons, most instances won't let you arbitrarily search for just any toot. Typically, things like searching by hashtag, searching for your own toots, and searching toots you've interacted with (e.g., bookmarked) will work. Also, entering the full URL of a toot to get to it will work as well.

Fixes, minor changes

  • Logging in to GoToSocial-based instances now works. #73
  • Fixes a visual glitch (probably since macOS 11 Big Sur) in the Composing Settings. #65
  • macOS Notifications were sent for even when a filter for this notification type was configured in Settings. #76
  • The remaining character count didn't update correctly if there was text after a URL. #67
  • Filters: there were multiple bugs in setting and reading filters. #77

This release mostly squashes bugs 🐞, which is adorable.

Features

Filter notifications by type: for example, you can now only show notifications for mentions.

Show CW-hidden pictures if the picture is clicked (previously, you had to click the exclamation mark triangle)

Fixes, minor changes

cmd-C and cmd-shift-C can now be used to copy a toot's URL or contents, respectively.

You can once again paste text into the compose window.

Search is now more discoverable with a 🔍 icon in the toolbar.

Filters previously didn't apply to boosts.

The sharing extension now actually includes the shared URL.

Oh, and the sharing extension no longer crashes.
