What is the Globe of Economic Complexity?

The Globe is an interactive visualization of economics data. It uses a dot-based representation, where each dot encodes a segment of $100 million worth of exports by countries. As total world exports cumulated to $15.3 trillion in 2012, it plots and animates 153,000 dots to generate geographical maps, node link diagrams and various stacked graphs.

How is it related to the Atlas of Economic Complexity?

The Globe is a 3D version of the Atlas that offers a novel perspective on the international trade dataset.

What dataset is being used? Can I download or export the data?

All the information related to data processing are now available on our GitHub.

Why dots have a certain position on the map?
