On Linux I assume? Also, it seems like the go tool only supports ppc64, does that work?

Yes, for linux please. I tried to compile on ppc 32bit by myself with gccgo-go package but got tons of error:

 reference to undefined name
 error: division by zero
 error: use of undefined type
 error: expected pointer
