There is the PR but would be good to have the issue where we will be able to talk about it (even in the future).

The original issue:

Normally repositories are cloned from the web, but git allows to clone from a file url too. Maybe necessary in some situations (e.g. company restrictions), but also helpful just for testing mgit.
