Python 3.8 was released in build 31830, but the unit package was broken in that build. The issue has not been resolved yet and is being investigated.

Updating unit to the latest release (1.13.0-1) resolves the python3.8 compatibility issue. The fix is planned to be integrated for build 31890 or newer.
