Is gh CLI intended to be used in Git Bash?

Hi, I've recently been trying to incorporate gh more in my workflow, and each time I use it from git bash I struggle. I'm not sure if this is due to a setup issue on my end or if it's something else. I have no issues using it from the cmd. This makes me think maybe it's something to do with my git bash defaults. I wasn't ready to submit this as a bug, so I figured I'd stop here first.

The computer I'm using is pretty dated.

• Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (Microsoft Windows Version 6.1.7601)
• git version 2.28.0.windows.1
• gh version 1.3.1 (2020-12-03)

I tested this on my windows 10 PC and a VM running windows 10. The results are all the same, see below:

$ gh auth login
? What account do you want to log into?  [Use arrows to move, type to filter]
> GitHub.com
  GitHub Enterprise Server
could not prompt: The handle is invalid.

Tried looking for some kind of interactive flag. Currently looking for DEBUG options. I can't select with arrows or hit enter. After the gh auth login command runs it just skips over this and throws the handle is invalid error.

Anyone else experience this? I'll try reinstalling git bash and using a different default prompt next. If that doesn't work I'll probably copy-paste this and submit it as a bug report.

Edit: Potential Solution: gh config set prompt disabled - I'm not sure if this is the proper way to get around this but it seems to have helped.

It's a known issue in the library that we are using for prompts #404

I'm sorry that you've been bitten by this. We plan to investigate why this is happening and hopefully fix it.

You should keep using the workaround that you've discovered and pass all values via flags. 👍
