I have several albums, which have the same name (e.g. if a remix/remaster was done, but I don't want to call the one album $album and the other $album (remix) or $album (remaster)). Right now those albums are mixed in cmus library view, because they have the same name.
This could be solved, if I was able to configure the library view to
$artist
$year $album
rather than what we currently have
$artist
$album
In the configuration we already have format_trackwin, so I think it would only be consistent to also include a format_artistalbumwin (this name is just a suggestion).
I'm no coder, so I cannot provide a patch. But I hope this is trivial, so in case this feature won't be included, a hint to how this can be achieved would be appreciated.

Hmm… on the one hand we have your use case, and on the other — albums with tracks from different years. This means that we can not simply choose a single “right” algorithm.
Making it configurable (what you propose) is not easy, unfortunately: cmus relies on things being organized this way internally. This use case will not be covered until someone will invest time in performing the required refactoring, I guess.
