Mac hot keys don't seem to function. I have been using this daemon, but it would be better if native support is there.
mpv automatically captures the hot keys. It does this seamlessly. Perhaps their code can be copied.

Yes, that's correct
Is there any plan to implement this?
I have a branch with added support for cmus on Mac Media Key Forwarder. This should help with making the media keys work nicely with cmus. :)
