19 Pull requests and 31 Issues, not looking good. And maintainer does not seem to care anymore. I would go with backbone-on-rails, i recently updated that to latest version of underscore and backbone.

@dahal A new version of backbone.js(1.1.2) is also available. Would you be able to update your PR to update that too. ?
@jabr I will merge this to master this week along with the backbone.js version upgrade.
And about releasing a new gem, I currently don't have permission to push to or release to rubygems. I only have collaborator access to this repo.
