A software application can commonly have a long name "InvenioRDM GitHub Archiver" and a shorter name used on the command line "iga". The first makes sense to map to "name" but it's not clear what to use for the second. There are some examples where "identifier" gets used https://github.com/search?q=identifier+path%3A**%2Fcodemeta.json&type=code, but that doesn't really fit with the definition of "identifier"

Do we need a new term for the command line argument? What could it be called?

What would this name be used for?

I find 2 uses:

  • Guiding users on which is the command associated with a tool when running it.
  • When creating a new tool, finding conflicts with existing short names used by existing tools.
