Multiple non-continuous batches with align_cds?

Is it possible to align across multiple discrete batches (alignment_groups) in align_cds? I could be mistaken, but the function appears to modify the PCA from preprocess_cds, overwriting the previous Aligned reduction with no option to modify it instead, thus precluding an iterative approach. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
