Polly Hudson edited this page Jul 26, 2023 · 1 revision

Host and core team

Colouring Britain is run by The Alan Turing Institute and is based at The British Library in London. It building on the Colouring London prototype (initiated at University College London in 2016) and forms part of the international Colouring Cities Research Programme managed by the Intitute's Urban Analytics Programme.

Colouring Britain operates both as a free national public resource on the building stock and a demonstration model for the CCRP. Methods to maximise resource efficiency and cost effectiveness, and usefulness, are tested. These combine input from:

  • a small core team at the Turing responsible for CCRP programme strategy and Colouring Britain technical management;
  • a voluntary network of academic institutions encouraging data upload at regional level and overseeing bulk uploads and data quality;
  • crowdsourcing contributions from academia, government, the third sector, industry and citizens, and moving towards a collaborative maintenance model as used by Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap
