When the location mode is “device only”, the nearby information can not be obtained, and there is no prompt. #3134

Summary:

When the location mode is "Device only" to get the Nearby locations, it will be loaded all the time without any hints.

Before creating an issue, please search the existing issues to see if a similar one has already been created. You can search issues by specific labels (e.g. label:nearby) or just by typing keywords into the search filter.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set the location mode to "device only" in the settings
  2. Open the app
  3. Click on "NEARBY"

The application will be loaded all the time without any hints.
It is hoped that the user can be prompted that the current positioning mode can not obtain the results.

Device and Android version:

EMUI 9.1.1, HUAWEI nova 5 pro

Commons app version:

Latest from F-DROID, 2.11.0,

Thanks for finding out the issue @sjl872964789. This must be happening in the newer versions of android. (Mostly 8+). We will have to probably figure out if the LOCATION_MODE is device only and maybe ask the user to update the location preferences in that case.

I'm sorry to see your kind reply just now. In fact, the three mobile phones I used (Samsung A6s, Xiaomi Hm2, vivo x9) all have this setting. Of course, it seems that some mobile phone systems do not have this setting. Attach how to find this setting for my mobile phone.

I have also encountered this issue.

Android provide three main location modes: high accuracy (using both the network and GPS for location), battery saving (using the network for location) and device only (using only GPS for location).

Thanks for your amazing app and I would appreciate it if you can follow this issue in your spare time
