VSCode Remote SSH (+ Jupyter Notebook) & Copilot: Is there a way? #6942
-
I develop almost strictly with VSCode Remote SSH and often in Jupyter Notebook mode (with Python, on a remote GPU cluster). Is there a way to use Copilot in this configuration? Thanks. |

When you connect to a ssh remote in vscode, then you can open the Extensions panel. You can find that the Copilot plugin can be chosen to be installed in SSH. |

I'm encountering a similar issue. My copilot extension works perfectly locally. But the remote server I'm using is not connected to internet and can only be accessed via ssh. The copilot extension failed to activate because it has to use the connection of the remote server. Is there anyway to solve this issue? e.g. is it possible to make the copilot remote extension use local connection instead? |

@thudaniel2333 add this to your settings.json in VSCode and that'll fix it for you:
Here's why it works: https://code.visualstudio.com/api/advanced-topics/extension-host |

Just install copilot again when login into remote server works for me. |

Update to this thread, if you want github copilot chat to work, you'll have to update it to the following, to add in the copilot-chat feature too

Question: The settings updates suggested above, should I put them in my local settings.json or the settings.json for the remote host? Context: When I connect to a remote SSH instance, the copilot chat icon disappears, even though I've installed locally, signed in, then installed in remote. The settings above didn't seem to work for me no matter where I added them EDIT: Chat disabled by my organisation, causes the icon in the toolbar to disappear |
