Antoher question: I have stitched to gether and copied most of the definitions from various internet sources. I was wondering what the best practice here would bee, though.

Are these really < 20 concepts? Do we find them in existing lists? That is a major question we ask when adding new concepts.

So far, I have problems finding these concepts in any lists we had so far. We need at least one or two examples per concept that it appears in existing lists, or that you will provide two lists that contain this.

When I get definitions from internet sources, I have added at times information in [] brackets. I think thsi should be available when checking the definitions now.

Okay, it seems I must have misunderstood something. So my overall goal is to add this new conceptlist to concepticon BUT since some of the words don't have corresponding concepts in concepticon (see empty cells in col "Conecpticon_ID"), I thought they need to be added to the master list (concepticon.tsv) first, so that I can reference them in the new concept list that is then to be added to concepticon. Since adding all of them would break the workflow, I thought I'd add less than 20. But the point is, and I think this is the misunderstanding, I thought these 20 that I am adding to the master list are supposed to be LACKING from concepticon. And only after that I'd add the concept list of 〜500 words that then ARE contained in concepticon.

When I presented Conception at the Semantic Shift Summer School, I was asked a similar question ("How do you decide whether or not to add a new Concepticon concept set"). Here is the short answer:

It is a bottom-up process and not a top-down one. When we notice that a gloss (e.g. stitch, roll up, loan) occurs in several lists (~3 lists), we discuss whether to add a new concept set. We have many lists where a number of items are not mapped to Concepticon concept sets, either because there is no matching concept set or the gloss is too narrow/wide.

So if your list contains multiple glosses for which there is no corresponding Concepticon concept set, the CONCEPTICON_ID, and CONCEPTICON_GLOSS cells will remain empty. If we add a new concept set in the future, they will appear in the list of unmapped concepts that @mathildavz is currently working through.

Ahh, I see, that explaines a lot, thank you!

So I think I'll close this issue now and move on to submitting the concept list itself instead

Thanks again!
