Connection refused with io.containerd.example.v1

Problem description:

Im trying to create a use the example shim (https://github.com/containerd/containerd/tree/main/runtime/v2/example) but It fails when It fails with "connection refused: unknown", but with the default "io.containerd.runc.v2" works

[root@sbWMmarqIL ~]# ctr run --runtime io.containerd.example.v1 docker.io/library/hello-world:latest hello-example-shim
ctr: failed to start shim: start failed: dial unix : connect: connection refused: unknown

[root@sbWMmarqIL ~]# ctr container list
CONTAINER             IMAGE                                           RUNTIME                     
hello                 docker.io/library/hello-world:latest           io.containerd.runc.v2       
hello-example-shim    docker.io/library/hello-world:latest           io.containerd.example.v1

Steps to reproduce:

git clone https://github.com/containerd/containerd.git
cd containerd/runtime/v2/example
go build -o containerd-shim-example-v1 cmd/main.go
sudo cp containerd-shim-example-v1 /usr/local/bin/containerd-shim-example-v1

sudo ctr image pull docker.io/library/hello-world:latest
sudo ctr run --runtime io.containerd.example.v1 docker.io/library/hello-world:latest hello-example-shim
