Branch Management

A brief overview of how this project uses branches for code and documentation.

The master branch is used for day-to-day development.

There is one release/* branch for each previous minor release version. For example, if the current minor version is 2.1, the branches might be release/1.0, release/1.1, release/2.0.

The master branch is for the latest minor version.

Patch versions (for example, 2.1.3) are tagged on the master branch (or one of the release branches, in the rare case you need to do a new release on an older minor version).

There’s one set of documentation for each minor version. The documentation lives in the same repo as the code, and branches along with the code.

Caution
Changes to the docs are automatically published to docs.couchbase.com, including docs in the master branch. If you’re writing docs for an upcoming minor version, you might want to do that in a temporary branch instead of master, and/or only commit the changes after the minor version is released.
