Jackson Manual: Bit of Background

Jackson has been in active development since early 2007 (see http://www.cowtowncoder.com/blog/archives/2013/08/entry_479.html). Although you can use it without knowing anything about its history, some knowledge may help understand its conceptual layering, and relationship to other Java data processing standards (both historical that predate Jackson, and later additions that did not exist at the time Jackson started). It may also be useful to know how various concepts have evolved over time as design and implementation have both grown organically from a much smaller core design.
